Ulster Publishing
I was hired out of my freshman year at college at 17 to be a graphic designer for Ulster Publishing. Several years later, I had designed thousands of display ads, laid out many hundreds of newspapers and written dozens of articles read by tens of thousands of Hudson Valley, NY residents. I designed countless promotional materials, signs, sales materials, and in-house production forms.
I also led the newspaper publisher’s transition to internet publishing and advertising, then in its infancy. I trained advertising and production staff. I built and designed a custom CMS and front-end in HTML, CSS and ColdFusion (this was the late 90s). I produced large-scale content databases with Access and SQL, and authored scripts to extract content from PageMaker into XML files. I produced (entirely by myself) the Dine Hudson Valley website which showcased the menus of hundreds of local restaurants and allowed user reviews before Yelp had even launched.
